Brightcom surges on US defence tie-up

Brightcom Group’s stock hit 5% upper circuit after it signed an MoU with US-based Close Quarters Tactical (CQT) Weapon Systems.

CQT is a defence manufacturer known for precision rifles, tactical components, and mission-ready hardware in the US.

The deets: Brightcom only launched its defence division in August 2025, focusing on AI-powered aerospace intelligence and autonomous defence tech. The company is betting big on collective drone operations, intelligent threat response, and integrating advanced weapon systems into military platforms.

The company has the software smarts, but to turn its vision into real-world defence systems, it needs reliable hardware. That’s where CQT comes in. The partnership brings together Brightcom’s AI-driven platforms and CQT’s proven hardware to create deployable, next-gen solutions.

Why it matters: for India, this tie-up helps reduce reliance on imports by combining local AI expertise with proven global hardware. It gives the country an early push into next-gen defence tech like autonomous drones and smart weapons, areas that will shape future warfare.

Big theme: India is still in the early stages of building AI-driven defence systems. DRDO and startups have begun experimenting with autonomous drones, surveillance platforms, and AI-based battlefield decision systems.

The government’s Defence AI Council and initiatives like Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) are pushing private firms and startups to develop AI solutions locally. Big defence names like Tata, L&T, and Bharat Electronics are also investing.
