India’s auto industry is on a serious roll. July 2026 was its strongest-ever July, with sales jumping across major segments. Passenger vehicle sales surged 34.3% YoY to 4.58 lakh units, a record for the month. Two-wheeler sales rose 22.6% to 19.23 lakh units, while three-wheelers jumped 33.4% to 92,560 units.
Within two-wheelers, scooters were having a particularly good run. Sales grew 23.7% to nearly 8 lakh units, while motorcycles grew 20.7% to 10.75 lakh units. The momentum also follows a strong start to FY27, with the industry posting its best-ever first quarter, showing that this isn’t just a one-month blip.
So, what’s driving the joyride? Festive demand, improving monsoons, easier financing and the continued boost from last year’s GST cuts are all helping consumers open their wallets. The big picture? India is back in a buying mood, and automakers are hoping the festive season keeps the pedal down.
