L&T gets ₹5,000–10,000 crore Riyadh Metro extension work

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has bagged an order in the range of ₹5,000–10,000 crore from Saudi Arabia’s Royal Commission of Riyadh City for work on the Riyadh Metro expansion.

About the deal: the order is to design and build an 8.4-km stretch of Riyadh Metro’s Red Line, including elevated and underground sections and five stations.

Riyadh is expanding its city train system to reduce traffic and modernise urban transport. L&T will physically build a key part of that network from scratch and hand it over in a ready-to-use form.

Why it matters: the project fits into Saudi Arabia’s long-term Vision 2030 plan, where world-class public transport is seen as essential infrastructure for economic growth & tourism.

Metro systems are built to last decades, so this is not just a transport upgrade but an investment in how the city functions in the future.

Now, even though L&T has not disclosed its exact share of the contract yet, such projects typically run over many years, giving stable revenue and reinforcing the company’s execution credentials.

Metro rail work is among the most complex forms of infrastructure, so winning and executing these contracts enhances L&T’s reputation as a high-quality global EPC player rather than just a domestic infrastructure contractor.
