Mazagon Dock, Brazil Navy sign defence pact

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, in association with the Indian Navy has signed an MoU with the Brazilian Navy to boost cooperation on maintenance of Scorpène-class submarines and other military vessels.

A Scorpene-class submarine is like a high-tech underwater ninja ship which is silent, hard to detect, and used to protect the country from threats coming by sea.

The deets: the agreement lets both sides work together to find new defence deals, share their manufacturing know-how, and jointly develop new technologies.

Why this matters: this order comes just a month after Mazagon Dock signed an MoU with Swan Defence to design and build landing platform docks (LPDs) for the Indian Navy, adding to its growing pipeline of defence projects. The company recently said its order book could cross ₹1 lakh crore by FY27.

Its financial performance has also been strong, in October, Mazagon Dock reported a 28.1% jump in consolidated net profit to ₹749 crore for the September 2025 quarter, driven by higher revenue and improved margins. This new order will further support that momentum.

Big picture: analysts note that defence companies are seeing a stronger export pipeline, with increasing global enquiries for missiles, radars, naval platforms and ammunition, owing to heightened security concerns, which could eventually benefit Mazagon Dock.
