Netflix India has partnered with the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) and FICCI to support students in India’s Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) sector.
The deets: under the MoU, Netflix will use its fund for creative equity to offer scholarships to students identified by IICT. The fund is part of Netflix’s global effort to create more opportunities for talent in media and entertainment.
The streaming giant will also join three of IICT’s national councils, R&D, Academic, and Industry Development, helping shape India’s creative tech ecosystem.
Why it matters: this partnership connects academia, industry, and policy to give students real-world exposure through workshops and mentorship. For Netflix, it’s another step in deepening its presence in India’s creative space as a talent enabler.
Zoom out: Netflix now joins the likes of Google, Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Adobe, which have all signed MoUs with IICT during the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES).
India’s AVGC-XR sector is valued at over $3 billion in 2024 & it is expanding at 20–25% annually. The growt is driven by streaming platforms, global studios, and rising demand for immersive content.
The government has also identified AVGC-XR as a “sunrise sector”, launching policies and training initiatives to make India a global content creation hub.
States like Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Telangana are setting up AVGC clusters and studios. From blockbuster VFX-heavy films and OTT shows to gaming startups and metaverse experiences, the AVGC-XR sector is shaping India’s next big export story.
