PlaySimple gears up for $450M market debut

Modern Times Group is planning to launch a $450 million initial public offering (IPO) for its Indian gaming arm PlaySimple.

Modern Times Group is a Sweden-based digital entertainment company creating games like RAID: Shadow Legends, Forge of Empires and Bloons, plus word-games like WordTrip.

PlaySimple is an India-based mobile gaming developer that creates popular word-and-puzzle games like ‘Daily Themed Crossword,’ ‘WordTrip,’ and ‘WordJam’.

Note: Modern Times Group had acquired the gaming developer in 2021 for $360 million.

What it means for the sector: if successful, PlaySimple’s listing could reshape India’s gaming sector. As one of the first major gaming firms to go public, its IPO may pave the way for other gaming startups to tap capital markets.

Why it matters: globally, gaming giants like Zynga, Nexon, and Roblox have used IPOs to scale rapidly. A successful PlaySimple listing could position India as a credible gaming hub, attract global investor interest, and inspire more studios to list.
