US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met PM Narendra Modi in Delhi during his four-day India visit.
The focus: defence, trade, energy security, strategic technology and the growing crisis in the Middle East.
One of the biggest takeaways from the meeting was the growing push for an India-US trade deal. Both countries are looking to deepen ties as global tensions rise and supply chains become more unpredictable.
Energy security also took the spotlight, especially at a time when the Middle East conflict has raised concerns around global oil supplies.
Rubio hinted at possible developments around the Strait of Hormuz, saying, “The Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway they can't own…In the next few hours, the world would get some good news with regards to straits.”
Rubio also held talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, where both sides appeared more aligned on trade, Indo-Pacific strategy and energy cooperation.
Not only that, US Ambassador Sergio Gor said President Donald Trump has invited PM Modi to visit the White House in the near future, hinting at even closer engagement between the two countries.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Embassy in India criticised US sanctions on Iranian oil exports and said Iran remains ready to supply energy resources to countries including India.
The embassy also added that “what has held the global energy market hostage over recent years has been the unlawful and unjust sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran's oil exports.”
The Iranian Embassy in India rejected US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s claim that “Iran can never have nuclear weapons,” calling the remarks an attempt to distort realities.
