Titagarh Railway Systems gained 3% after it bagged an order worth ₹2,481 crore from Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to develop Mumbai Metro Line 5
Titagarh Railway is engaged in the manufacturing and selling of freight wagons, coaches, metro trains, and specialised equipment related to railways.
The deets: Metro Line 5 route also known as the Orange line will connect Thane, Bhiwandio, and Kalyan.
The order involves commissioning of 132 metro coaches. Besides, it involves signalling for a 24.9 km track, telecommunications for 16 stations, setting up of platform screen doors, depot machinery, and maintenance for five years.
Big picture: this marks Titagarh’s second major order from Mumbai Metro. The deal ties into the city’s ambitious master plan which is to develop a 337 km metro network spanning multiple lines by 2024-26. The larger goal is to boost public transport, move 100 lakh commuters daily, and finally tackle Mumbai’s infamous traffic chaos.
