Websol Energy System gained after Andhra Pradesh cleared its mega solar manufacturing project.
The deets: the state government has approved Websol’s greenfield 4 GW solar cell and 4 GW solar module facility at in Tirupati.
Alongside the factory, Websol will also set up a 100 MW captive solar power plant to supply clean power directly to the facility.
A 4 GW solar cell plant manufactures the core component that converts sunlight into electricity. A 4 GW solar module plant then assembles these cells into finished solar panels ready for installation.
A 100 MW captive solar power plant generates clean electricity to run the factory, lowering power costs and ensuring steady supply.
Why it matters: captive renewable power means lower energy costs and stable supply, which is critical for energy-heavy solar manufacturing.
India’s low-carbon power generation is steadily rising, with solar and wind now forming a meaningful share of the electricity mix.
Projects like Websol’s 8 GW solar manufacturing plant directly support this shift, strengthening domestic capacity as India moves beyond fossil fuels.
