Adani Power has received a Letter of Intent from the Bihar State Power Generation Company.
Part of the Adani portfolio, Adani Power is India’s largest private thermal power producer.
The deets: the agreement is for a 2,400 MW thermal power project that will supply 2,274 MW of electricity to North and South Bihar Power Distribution Companies.
The project will be set up in Pirpainti village, Bihar, following a design, build, finance, own, and operate - DBFOO model. In simple words, the coal needed to run the plant will come from a government-backed supply deal, so fuel won’t be a problem.
Gautam Adani will invest $3 billion to build and operate the project.
Zoom out: this project comes at a pivotal time for India's energy landscape. While India is rapidly expanding its renewable capacity, thermal power still accounts for over 70% of electricity generation, making it the backbone of grid stability.
