Asian Paints Q1 steady with mixed trends

Asian Paints delivered an in-line set of Q1 numbers, with net profit down 6% year-on-year. Despite the dip, the stock bounced back from intraday lows, ending the session up nearly 2%.

By the numbers:

  • Net Profit down 6% YoY to ₹1,117 crore vs ₹1,170 crore last year
  • Revenue fell marginally to ₹8,939 crore from ₹8,970 crore in Q1FY25
  • EBITDA dropped 4% YoY to ₹1,625 crore vs ₹1,693.7 crore

The company pointed to macro uncertainties and the early onset of monsoons as key factors that dampened demand. A shift in product mix weighed on topline growth, while the Home Decor segment underperformed due to pressure on household spending.

The silver lining: the domestic decorative paints business showed relative strength, with 3.9% volume growth, even as revenue dipped 1.2%.

The Industrial Coatings division stood out with 8.8% revenue growth, thanks to solid gains in auto and protective coatings.

The international business also showed promise, posting 8.4% value growth led by stronger demand in Asian markets, the UAE, and Egypt.

Despite the headline dip, the underlying momentum in industrial and international segments suggests there’s still some color in the outlook.
