All about Aurum's ₹458 crore Housing.com deal

If you've ever searched for a home online, chances are you've come across Housing.com. Now, Mumbai-based Aurum PropTech, a real estate technology company is buying it in a ₹458 crore deal to build a one-stop platform for everything related to real estate.

What’s the deal: Aurum PropTech will acquire Housing.com from Australia's REA Group in an all-equity deal, meaning no cash is being paid. Instead, REA Group will receive shares in the company.

The company doesn't just want another property listing website. It wants to build a complete real estate ecosystem.

Think about buying a house today. You search for properties on one app, speak to a broker on another platform, apply for a home loan elsewhere and complete paperwork through different service providers.

Aurum wants to bring all of these steps under one roof.

The company plans to combine Housing.com's massive consumer reach with its own technology platform. Together, it wants to build an AI-powered system that connects homebuyers, developers, brokers, rental platforms and financial services, making the entire property-buying journey much smoother.

Why is REA Group selling: Australia's REA Group has owned Housing.com for several years. As part of its global strategy, it appears to be streamlining its portfolio and exiting the Indian business through a share swap, while still retaining exposure by becoming a shareholder in Aurum PropTech instead of walking away completely.

Zoom out: India's property market is becoming increasingly digital.

According to industry estimates, the Indian proptech market is expected to cross $1 trillion in value over the next decade, driven by rising home sales, digital transactions and AI-powered property services.

That's why real estate companies are no longer competing only on who has more listings. They're competing on who can offer the entire home-buying experience. Aurum's Housing.com acquisition is a big step in that direction.
