JSW Neo to acquire Tidong hydro project

JSW Neo Energy, a subsidiary of JSW Energy, will acquire 100% of Tidong Power Generatio

Note: Tidong Power is building a 150 MW hydro project in Himachal Pradesh.

A 150 MW hydro project is like a giant water-powered generator that makes enough clean electricity to light up over a million homes.

The deets: the transaction will need nods from the Himachal Pradesh government for change in control and clearances from lenders. After completion, Tidong’s assets and operations will be folded into JSW’s renewable portfolio.

Why it matters: the buyout is part of JSW Energy’s big green push. The company wants to triple its power capacity to 30 GW by 2030, and most of that, around 70% will come from renewables like solar, wind, and hydro.

Adding Tidong’s 150 MW hydro project gives JSW a steady, reliable source of clean energy. Unlike solar or wind, which depend on weather, hydro offers more consistent supply.

For JSW, this makes its portfolio stronger and more balanced, helping it meet both climate goals and India’s rising demand for electricity.

Zoom out: India is betting big on hydropower and renewables to balance rising energy demand with climate goals.

India’s power demand is climbing fast, the country added over 250 GW of generation capacity by 2025 and still needs much more to keep up with growth. The government has set a target of 500 GW of renewables by 2030, making projects like hydro, solar, and wind critical. Hydropower still plays a key role because it provides steady electricity even when the sun & wind sources are not there.

That’s why JSW’s hydro buy fits neatly into India’s broader plan to balance rapid industrial growth with clean, reliable energy.
