NIBE has signed a tech collaboration with Israel’s Elbit Systems Land to locally produce a cutting-edge Universal Rocket Launcher in India. The announcement pushed the stock up more than 5%.
NIBE is an Indian defence company that makes high-tech military equipment and parts for armed forces. Meanwhile, Elbit Systems is an Israeli defence giant that builds advanced weapons, electronics, and battlefield tech used by armies worldwide.
The deets: the system called SURYA can hit targets up to 300 km away with precision. Under this tech-transfer pact, it will be manufactured and supplied by NIBE, marking a first-of-its-kind production in India.
Worth noting: this is the first time such an advanced rocket launcher system will be built on Indian soil.
Why it matters: SURYA is designed to outperform global counterparts and could redefine how modern warfare looks. The deal positions NIBE as a serious player in the global defence supply chain and arms it with world-class capabilities.
Zoom out: India already uses systems like Pinaka, an indigenously developed multi-barrel rocket launcher by DRDO, which has been deployed by the Indian Army. Pinaka can hit targets up to 75–90 km away and is built for speed, accuracy, and volume in battlefield conditions.
The country has also imported systems like the Russian Grad in the past but is now focused on building its own tech to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers. The push toward “Make in India” in defence means companies like NIBE are getting more involved in producing advanced launch systems domestically.
