Tata Motors and Stellantis signed partnership to develop cars in India for more than 50 international markets.
Stellantis is a global automobile company that makes and sells cars under brands like Jeep, Citroën, Peugeot and Fiat.
What’s going on: Tata Motors will provide its vehicle technology and architecture, basically the foundation on which a car is designed and built.
Stellantis will use its engineering expertise to develop vehicles suited to different countries, customer preferences and regulations.
The vehicles will be manufactured in India through Fiat India Automobiles, their existing 50:50 joint venture.
The facility produces vehicles including the Jeep Compass, Jeep Meridian, Tata Nexon, Altroz and Curvv. It also makes engines, transmissions and electric vehicle motors.
Why it matters: instead of building every new car from scratch, Stellantis can use Tata's existing technology to save development time and costs.
For Tata Motors, the deal opens the door for its technology to reach international markets through Stellantis' global network.

Big picture: India's passenger vehicle exports have been gaining momentum. According to SIAM data, exports reached 7.7 lakh vehicles in FY25, up from around 6.7 lakh in FY24. That's also higher than the pre-pandemic levels of FY19.
