Fortis Healthcare has acquired Suguna Hospital in Rajajinagar for approximately ₹277 crore through its wholly owned subsidiary, International Hospital Limited.
The all-cash deal includes the hospital’s operations as well as its land and building.
Suguna Hospital is a multispeciality hospital that has operated since 2006. It currently has 110 beds, with enough space to increase that number to around 150.
The deets: The hospital generated approximately ₹50 crore in revenue during FY26. At first glance, Fortis is paying about 5.6 times Suguna’s annual revenue. However, that price also includes the underlying land and building.
The transaction has been structured as a slump sale which simply means Fortis is buying Suguna’s hospital business as one complete package including its operations, assets, land and building.
The why: this is Fortis’ second hospital acquisition in north-west Bengaluru this year. It bought People Tree Hospital in Yeshwanthpur in January.
Suguna Hospital is located close to Fortis’ existing Rajajinagar hospital and the People Tree facility. Together, these three hospitals give Fortis access to around 500 potential beds in the north-west Bengaluru corridor.
Fortis believes this part of the city does not have enough organised hospital capacity for the number of people living there. Instead of entering a completely new market, it is building a bigger network in an area where it already operates.
A larger local presence can additionally help Fortis negotiate better prices while purchasing medicines and medical supplies. It can also spread its brand, marketing and technology costs across more beds. The acquisition takes Fortis’ operational capacity in Bengaluru to around 1,000 beds, including hospitals that it manages but does not own.
