Why Taiwan’s Gemtek is partnering with India’s Dixon Technologies

Electronics manufacturer Dixon Technologies has signed an agreement with Taiwan-based Gemtek Technology to manufacture and supply optical communication components in India.

Gemtek provides wireless and broadband communication solutions and is based in Taiwan’s Hsinchu Industrial Park.

What’s the deal: the companies will make optical transceivers and bidirectional optical subassemblies. These components help telecom networks send and receive data through fibre-optic cables. They will also manufacture other telecom products agreed upon by both partners.

Dixon said the joint venture will help it expand into data centres, telecom and optical connectivity by combining its manufacturing capabilities with Gemtek’s expertise in high-speed optical modules and networking technologies.

The venture aims to meet growing demand from AI, cloud and edge computing, large-scale data centres and high-speed communication networks.

Who owns what: Dixon Electroconnect, currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Dixon Technologies, will become the joint venture. Dixon will hold a 60% stake, while Gemtek will own the remaining 40%.
