Steel Exchange India gained more than 8% after securing a fresh five-year approval from the Military Engineer Services (MES) under the Ministry of Defence for supplying TMT steel bars.
TMT steel bars are strong steel rods used inside buildings, bridges, and roads to make structures stronger and more earthquake-resistant.
The deets: MES is the construction arm of India’s defence infrastructure system. It builds and maintains things like army housing, military roads, airbases, bunkers, and defence buildings across the country.
Why this matters: not every steel company gets this approval. MES works only with a small list of manufacturers that meet strict quality and safety standards. So this renewal is basically the government saying: “your steel is good enough for defence projects.”
Steel Exchange will continue supplying specialised TMT bars made at its Andhra Pradesh plant. These bars go through rigorous testing because defence infrastructure needs stronger and more reliable materials than normal construction.
