Flipkart taps India Post’s delivery army

The Department of Posts has partnered with Flipkart to strengthen last-mile parcel deliveries across India.

The deets: the two have signed an agreement under which India Post will deliver Flipkart parcels across cities, towns, villages, and remote areas using its network of 1.6 lakh post offices.

The partnership will support prepaid and cash-on-delivery orders, live tracking, OTP-based delivery, and easy returns, starting with Maharashtra and Gujarat before expanding to other states.

The motive: the larger goal behind the India Post-Flipkart partnership is to make e-commerce delivery faster, wider, and more accessible across India, especially in smaller towns and rural regions. By combining India Post’s trusted nationwide network with Flipkart’s tech-driven commerce ecosystem, the collaboration aims to strengthen logistics infrastructure supporting India’s rapidly growing online shopping market.

For India Post, the deal helps better utilise its massive delivery network, while Flipkart gains deeper reach into underserved markets and first-time online shoppers.

The move also reflects a broader push to expand digital commerce participation across India, where logistics and last-mile delivery are becoming critical growth drivers. Flipkart already covers 95% of Indian pincodes and processes more than 3 billion packages annually, making this partnership a major step in taking e-commerce beyond metros.
