Tata Motors has secured an order to supply 70,000 commercial vehicles in Indonesia through its subsidiary PT Tata Motors Distribusi Indonesia. The stock gained barely 3% reacting to the news.
Note: Industry insiders say this is the largest single CV order won by any manufacturer in the country.
Breaking it down: the company will deliver 35,000 Yodha pick-ups and 35,000 Ultra T.7 trucks to Indonesian state-owned firm PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara.
The vehicles will power farm-to-market transport and rural goods movement across the country, with deliveries rolled out in phases.
The Yodha is built for rural distribution, while the Ultra T.7 supports light and mid-range freight. Both are engineered for tough road conditions and heavy-duty usage.
Zoom out: Tata Motors already has a presence in Indonesia through its local subsidiary, which makes it easier to execute a deal of this scale.
More importantly, Tata’s CVs are known for being rugged, cost-effective, and built for developing markets which is a strong fit for Indonesia’s mixed road conditions and price-sensitive logistics sector.
