This smallcap stock signed ₹1,300 crore Japan deal

Gujarat Themis Biosyn shares rose more than 4% after the company announced the acquisition of Japan-based MicroBiopharm for nearly ₹1,300 crore.

MicroBiopharm is a specialised biotech company with expertise in fermentation technology, microbial research, and pharma manufacturing.

Fermentation-based manufacturing is widely used in antibiotics, enzymes, and specialty pharmaceutical ingredients.

Why it matters: Gujarat Themis Biosyn is mainly into fermentation-based pharmaceuticals and biotech manufacturing, where microbes and biological processes are used to make complex drug ingredients. 

With the acquisition the company is looking to strengthen its biotech capabilities and expand into higher-value speciality pharma manufacturing. 

The deal also gives the company access to advanced fermentation technology, research expertise, and a stronger presence in the Japanese pharmaceutical market.
